The Challenge
Across the UK, 923,000 young people are currently not in employment, education, or training (NEET)* — that’s roughly 1 in 8 young people.
Although this represents a slight improvement on previous figures, the issue remains deeply concerning. Many of these young people have been out of work for over a year, and around 1 in 5 have no formal qualifications — twice the rate seen among the wider youth population.
Unsurprisingly, growing numbers of young people feel disconnected and disheartened. Just 1 in 3 believe employers are willing to give them a chance, and nearly half lack confidence that they’ll ever move into a meaningful job.
This isn’t just a personal setback — it’s a national one. The Youth Employment Group estimates that reducing the NEET rate to match the Netherlands (4.4% vs 12.5%) could unlock £69 billion in GDP and support 500,000 more young people into work or education.

Businesses or individuals can become a sponsor. This could be sponsoring a program or workgroup, providing resources or materials needed for that particular program. Or you could take a young person under your wing and sponsor them directly and accompany them along their journey.
These options can often be tailored and bespoke to whatever you feel best suits you or your business.
