Luis is one of those young people. His journey is not only inspiring — it’s a powerful reminder of why programmes like ours are so needed.
When Luis joined the programme just over a month ago, he brought with him something we often see in the young people we support: quiet resilience, untapped potential, and a history of setbacks that would knock anyone’s confidence. Despite doing all the right things — applying for jobs, showing up, doing what was asked — he kept getting knocked back.
For Luis, who is neurodiverse, these knockbacks weren’t just frustrating — they were deeply personal. And for his mum, Shelley, watching it all unfold was heartbreaking.
But everything changed when Luis found Genuine Futures.

We could tell you about the progress Luis has made. We could describe his natural presence on camera, his dedication to the car cleaning project, or his growing confidence. But no one captures it better than his mum, Shelley, whose heartfelt words touched us all:

What may seem like small steps to others — showing up, trying something new, engaging in conversation — are huge milestones for someone who’s had to fight just to be understood. Luis celebrates those wins daily, and we’re proud to celebrate them with him.
