From Stuck Indoors to a Future in Mechanics: Jaxon’s Journey With Genuine Futures

Posted on: 9th December 2025 | 3 min

When Jaxon first connected with Genuine Futures, he didn’t see much ahead of him.
Home-educated and isolated, his days all looked the same. He told us it felt like time was slipping away.

“I was stuck inside, losing hours of my life doing nothing. I wasn’t learning anything about what to do in the future.”

Like many young people in Bolton, Jaxon didn’t know where to start, who to talk to, or how to move forward. It wasn’t a lack of talent — it was a lack of opportunity and support.

That’s where Boss Your Future Bolton came in.

Breaking the Cycle of Isolation

Jaxon joined our programme not knowing what to expect, but very quickly, things began to shift.

“Genuine Futures helped me socialise and get out of my room, get out of my house, breathe some air, walk, lose some weight. It’s helped me a ton.”

Simple things made a big difference:
talking with others, building routines, being listened to, and having space to think about the future.

He wasn’t alone anymore — he was part of something.

Learning Skills That Actually Matter

Through community outreach, enterprise training, and real-world experience, Jaxon started gaining skills he could use straight away.

“I’ve learned how to run a business. I’ve learned how to clean a car with the most efficiency. I’ve learned life skills that I couldn’t be more thankful for.”

From professional communication and teamwork to customer service and problem solving, he built confidence step by step.

These weren’t worksheets or classroom exercises — they were hands-on experiences in real environments with real people.

From No Direction to College Student

Today, Jaxon is a different young man.

He is now in full-time college studying vehicle mechanics, building towards something he once thought was out of reach.

“I used to think I had no future. Now I have hopes for the future, and I can’t thank Genuine Futures more.”

His ambition is clear:
to work with cars, develop technical skills, and turn his new-found passion into a career.

A Story That Represents So Many Others

Jaxon’s journey is powerful not because it’s rare, but because it’s common — and it’s preventable.

All he needed was:
•       a mentor
•       a safe space
•       a chance to build confidence
•       and a pathway he could believe in

There are hundreds of young people just like Jaxon in Salford and Bolton right now:
•       bright
•       capable
•       full of potential
•       but stuck, isolated, or overlooked

Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not.

That’s why Genuine Futures exists.

A Future Worth Fighting For

Boss Your Future Bolton continues to recruit for Cohort 2 starting in early 2026, providing young people with:
•       youth-led enterprise training
•       real work experience
•       leadership development
•       community involvement
•       mentoring and support

Our doors are always open.

If you know a young person who could benefit — someone who feels lost, uninspired, or unsure where to start — send them our way.
