From Security to Second Chances: How Secure Entrance Systems Backed the Future in Oldham

Posted on: 25th July 2025 | 4 min

At Genuine Futures, we believe in second chances, fresh starts, and the power of community to change lives. That’s why the support we received for our recent Big Charity Pop-Up Car Wash in Oldham meant so much—especially from a family-run business that understands the value of opportunity and hard work. We’re incredibly proud to thank Secure Entrance Systems, and more personally, Ady Green and his sons, Tyler and Jake, for stepping up and helping to make the event such a success.

Secure Entrance Systems is a trusted national provider of automatic and manual door systems, access control, and security solutions. Their work keeps schools, hospitals, commercial sites, and public buildings safe, secure, and accessible across the UK. But last week in Oldham, they helped open a different kind of door—the door to a brighter future for the young people we support. Not only did Secure Entrance Systems get hands-on at the event, but they also kindly provided branded polo shirts for the Genuine Futures team—giving our young people a real sense of pride, identity, and professionalism throughout the day.

At the car wash, we caught up with Tyler Green, who was working alongside Oscar, one of the young people currently on the Genuine Futures programme. When asked why Secure Entrance Systems chose to support this initiative, Tyler shared:

“We wanted to support Genuine Futures for kids like this—who need the opportunity to get going in life, to take a bigger step forward. And to show ’em there’s a life ahead of them where they can do well, with the right people around them. It’s about bringing the community together to give these young people better chances. If more of us get involved, we can make their lives better and show them what’s possible.”

His father, Ady Green, Founder and Director of Secure Entrance Systems, echoed the sentiment:

“When we heard about what Genuine Futures was doing, we didn’t think twice. These young people deserve a real shot. Sometimes all it takes is someone to believe in them, and we wanted to be part of that. Supporting this car wash wasn’t just about raising money—it was about raising expectations and showing them they matter.”

The Bigger Picture: Why This Work Matters

Right now in the UK:

Over 800,000 young people aged 16–24 are classified as NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). That’s nearly 1 in 9 young people without clear direction or opportunity. Youth services funding has been cut by over 70% since 2010, leaving vulnerable young people without safe spaces or positive guidance. Anti-social behaviour and youth-related crime continue to rise in many urban areas. In places like Greater Manchester, youth gang activity has been linked to a 40% increase in serious violence involving under-25s over the past five years.

Involvement in gangs often starts as early as 12 or 13, particularly among those who’ve been excluded from school or feel left behind by the system. These aren’t just numbers—they represent futures hanging in the balance. Genuine Futures exists to interrupt that cycle. Through real-life experiences, skills-based learning, mentoring, and opportunities to work on community projects, we help young people aged 15–24 rediscover their value and find a new path.

And for young people like Oscar, aged 13, the impact is already being felt. After taking part in the car wash and speaking directly with the Genuine Futures team, Oscar said: “This has helped me stay out of trouble. I get to do stuff that makes me feel good about myself. Talking to you made me feel like someone actually gets it. I want to do better—and this gives me a way to try.”

Why Should Organisations Get Involved?

When businesses get behind Genuine Futures, they’re not just supporting a programme—they’re helping rebuild futures, prevent crime, and create a stronger community. Whether through hands-on volunteering, in-kind donations, or financial sponsorship, your involvement creates real, lasting impact. You also gain something in return: a chance to demonstrate your values, inspire your team, and connect with the next generation of motivated workers, leaders, and entrepreneurs.

We’re incredibly grateful to Ady, Tyler, Jake, and everyone at Secure Entrance Systems for believing in this mission. This is more than just a family business—it’s a business with heart, purpose, and a commitment to doing the right thing.
