Empowering the Next Generation: The Pre-Launch of We Shine Any Car at Aurora Woodlands School

We recently had the pleasure of meeting Jacs and his support worker, Helen, at the exciting pre-launch event of We Shine Any Car — the new social enterprise born from the Genuine Futures Taste of Enterprise programme at Aurora Woodlands School in Darwen. What an inspiring day it was!
Building Skills, Confidence, and Teamwork
Helen shared her excitement about the programme, saying,
“It’s going really well and I’m really impressed with the boys. They have done so well — lots of teamwork and great communication. I think they are really enjoying it.”
Jacs was just as enthusiastic, proudly saying,
“He’s cleaning! I have learned how to prep a car and how to clean properly.”
Jacs clearly enjoyed the hands-on experience of cleaning cars and getting stuck into the work.
This initiative is more than just about cleaning cars — it’s a chance for young people to develop real-world skills, gain confidence, and experience the power of teamwork.
Making a Real Impact
The proof of success was evident in the feedback from one happy customer who said,
“My car has never looked so good!”
Janette Hilton, Safeguarding Lead at Aurora Woodlands, reflected on the day’s achievements:
“What a fabulous day yesterday was. The students stepped outside their comfort zones and really grafted with your direction. The results were astounding — amazing teamwork and two staff went home with gleaming motors. Our students don’t often collaborate well; these students don’t usually work together. I have rewarded them with extra points towards their tuck shop on Friday, as they ignored their challenges and got on with the job.”
This shows the incredible progress the students made — breaking down barriers, working collaboratively, and embracing new challenges.

We Shine Any Car is not just about cars — it’s about empowering the next generation to shine in all areas of their lives. Through this social enterprise, students build practical skills, teamwork, and confidence that will serve them well beyond the driveway.
