From Creative Drawings to Confidence: Jennifer’s Journey to the Makers Market

At Genuine Futures CIC, we believe creativity can change lives and Jennifer’s story is proof. As a young artist on our Boss Your Future Bolton programme, she’s turned her love for creative drawings into confidence, purpose, and opportunity.

When Jennifer first joined the programme, she was unsure of her path. Like many young people in Bolton, she faced challenges that often go unseen low confidence, limited support, and uncertainty about the future. Art had always been her outlet, but she never imagined it could become her career.

Through the Boss Your Future programme — a youth enterprise and personal development initiative run by Genuine Futures Jennifer began to unlock her potential. With the encouragement of mentors, practical workshops, and the support of her peers, she found the courage to share her creative drawings with the world.

“I used to doubt myself a lot,” Jennifer says. “Now, seeing my drawings printed and framed makes me realise how far I’ve come. This is something I never thought I’d be doing and it’s given me confidence not just in my art, but in myself.”

Her journey from digital sketches to beautifully printed and framed artwork has been one of resilience and growth. Today, Jennifer is preparing for an upcoming Makers Market, where she’ll showcase her artwork to the public for the very first time a huge milestone for a young artist who once lacked self-belief.

Overcoming Challenges Through Creativity

Jennifer’s story isn’t just about art  it’s about overcoming barriers. Through Genuine Futures’ youth empowerment programmes, she’s learned to manage anxiety, build communication skills, and set achievable goals. These are the same qualities that the Boss Your Future Bolton programme develops in young people aged 15–24 who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET).

Her creative drawings have become more than images they’re reflections of emotion, growth, and courage. Each design tells a story of transformation, resilience, and the power of believing in yourself.

A Message from Mike Alleyne – Co-Director of Genuine Futures

“Jennifer is a brilliant example of what can happen when young people are given the chance to express themselves,” says Mike Alleyne, Co-Director of Genuine Futures. “Her creative drawings are more than art they’re a statement of growth and resilience. Watching her prepare for the Makers Market, you can see the confidence she’s built. It’s inspiring not only for us but for every young person who walks through our doors.”

Empowering Young Artists Across Bolton

Jennifer’s success is part of a growing movement across Bolton  where Boss Your Future, We Shine Any Car, and the Young Futures Hub are giving young people the confidence, creativity, and community they need to thrive.

Through art, enterprise, and mentorship, Genuine Futures is showing that every young person has the potential to shine they just need the right environment to do it.

Jennifer’s upcoming appearance at the Makers Market in Bolton is a reminder that creativity is more than a hobby it’s a pathway to personal growth and social change.
