Alex’s Story: From Uncertainty to a Future in College
Posted on:
When Alex joined the Boss Your Future Salford programme, he was at a crossroads. Disengaged from school and unsure about his next steps, the future felt uncertain. Like so many young people, Alex needed more than advice — he needed opportunity, encouragement, and a space to belong.
Together with 9 other young people from Salford, Alex took part in 12 weeks of thrilling adventures, from enterprise workshops and digital skills training to motivational talks and pop-up car wash events that gave him hands-on experience of teamwork, customer service, and business.
In a recent video, we asked Alex how he found being part of the car wash. His response says it all:
“It’s not been bad honestly, it’s quite good. We’re getting people and it’s mental cause all that came from a car boot. Walked in there and it’s actually working — you can just start a business from anywhere.”
What started as a simple idea — a car wash run by young people — became something bigger: a chance for Alex to see that with hard work and teamwork, you can build something real from scratch.
We’re proud to share that Alex has now enrolled in full-time college, taking the next step towards his future with renewed confidence and direction. Alex’s journey through Boss Your Future Salford is proof of what can happen when young people are given the right support and opportunities. From disengagement to education, from uncertainty to ambition — this is what Boss Your Future and the Young Futures Hub are all about.
