A Personal Appeal to Mayor Andy Burnham: Let’s Turn One Vehicle Into a Future

At the heart of this blog — and at the heart of our mission — is a very real, very urgent appeal.
Mayor Burnham, I’m reaching out not just on behalf of myself, but on behalf of every young person in Salford who feels left behind. Those who have fallen out of education, who are battling hopelessness, who’ve been through the justice system and are trying to find a way back. The young people who, right now, have the motivation to change — but not the resources to make that change sustainable.
Our programme, Genuine Futures – Boss Your Future, is working to break that cycle. Through our car cleaning social enterprise, we are offering real paid work, structure, and belief to young people who are often told they’re worth nothing. We’re showing them they are valuable, capable, and needed.
But to grow this work, we need your help.
We are appealing for the donation of a confiscated vehicle — one that may have been taken off the road due to crime — to be repurposed as a force for good.
Imagine this:
A car that once represented danger or damage is now used to transport young people to job sites, carry cleaning equipment, and deliver mobile services that generate real income and real experience. That same car becomes a symbol — a moving reminder of what Greater Manchester stands for: opportunity, reinvention, and second chances.
We’re not asking for charity. We’re offering a solution.
A way to redirect resources into communities.
A way to prevent reoffending by offering purpose.
A way to help young people write a new story — with your help.
Mayor Burnham, you’ve shown time and again that you’re willing to stand with those who are often unheard. We hope this appeal reaches you — and inspires you to stand with us now.
