🚀 Community Power in Action: How Bolton’s Young Leaders Are Stepping Up
Posted on:
A Day That Showed What Community Power Really Means
What took place at Little Lever Working Men’s Club was more than just a car wash — it was something truly special.
The Big Charity Pop-Up Car Wash brought together local residents, young people, and organisations in a way that felt real, positive, and long overdue.
The turnout.
The support.
The conversations.
It all pointed to one thing — community power is alive in Bolton.
The Pre-Launch of Clean Futures
This event marked the pre-launch of Clean Futures, a youth-led enterprise delivered by Genuine Futures.
Clean Futures is part of a wider mission — to give young people:
- Real opportunities
- Real responsibility
- Real belief in themselves
Through services like:
- Driveway and patio cleaning
- Wheelie bin cleaning
- External cleaning
- Help at Home services
Young people are gaining hands-on experience while building confidence and skills.
Bolton’s Young Leaders Stepping Up
What stood out most on the day was simple:
The young people didn’t just take part — they led.
They:
- Spoke to customers
- Delivered services
- Represented themselves with confidence
- Took ownership of the day
And importantly:
It was great to have even more young people join in.
Momentum is building.
More young people are stepping forward.
More are seeing what’s possible.
Aaron: Leading in His Own Community
A special mention goes to Aaron, one of Bolton’s young leaders on the Boss Your Future programme and a proud Little Lever resident.
Aaron helped organise the event, working closely with the venue and supporting planning behind the scenes.
This is what leadership looks like.
This is what happens when young people are trusted.
What the Community Said
The feedback from the day speaks volumes.
“I’m really worried about young people nowadays. But schemes like this really help push them forward and get them into a work ethic.”
— Tony
“It’s local, it’s helping support the youth of the community. It’s teaching them valuable skills, helping them learn a trade, and giving them real experience and confidence.”
— Dion
“It’s great — you’ve given them a proper place to work and learn about trades and mechanics. It’s absolutely amazing.”
— Dave
“I found you on Facebook and wanted to support what you’re doing. I’d rather my money go towards helping these young people. Brilliant service.”
— Brian, 88
These are real voices from the community — reinforcing the value of giving young people meaningful opportunities.
Standing Together in Little Lever
We are incredibly grateful to Little Lever Working Men’s Club for hosting the event.
We were also proud to stand alongside the Little Lever Life Support Group, supporting people facing mental health challenges.
“This event brought people together. It gave people a reason to come out, connect, and feel part of something positive.”
— Wendy Wilcocks, Parent & Member, Little Lever Life Support Group
Thank You to Our Volunteers & Partners
This event would not have been possible without the volunteers and partners who gave their time, energy, and belief.
This is what happens when a community comes together.
Rebuild with Hope Foundation: Adding More Value
Alongside the car wash, we worked with Rebuild with Hope Foundation, who brought a pop-up community shop offering high-quality clothing and homeware.
This helped:
- Increase engagement
- Bring more people together
- Create a real community hub
Voices from Genuine Futures
“This is what community power looks like — young people stepping up, supported by businesses and the community.”
— Mike Alleyne
“Too many young people are written off too early. This proves what’s possible when we give them a real chance.”
— Sam Smith

Final Thought
Too many young people are written off before they’ve had a chance.
This event showed something different.
When communities back their young people — they don’t just take part… they lead.
