A spark of inspiration at Be The Change Youth Project

Every journey starts with a spark — and for Keir, that moment came at a Meet & Motivate event hosted at Be The Change Youth Project, delivered through the Inspiring Speakers Programme by Genuine Futures CIC.

Keir a second-year Bolton College student studying Vehicle Preparation and Bodywork, attended the event looking for direction. Surrounded by other young people sharing their stories and hearing from inspiring speakers about enterprise, purpose, and opportunity, he left determined to start something of his own.

“That event changed the way I saw things,” Keir said. “It made me realise I could use my skills to build something positive — something that helps me grow and helps others too.”

From We Shine to We Polish — youth enterprise in action

After the event, Keir connected with the team at Genuine Futures and joined our youth-led enterprise, We Shine Any Car, based at The Scrappers, BL1 8HU, Bolton.

What began as a car washing and valeting project has grown into a thriving youth-led social enterprise — providing practical training, teamwork, and leadership opportunities for young people across Bolton.

Under the guidance of Luis, one of our Youth Voice Ambassadors, Keir is now helping to shape the next stage of the project with the launch of We Polish Any Car — adding professional valeting and polishing to the existing service.

“So basically, I want to try and get We Shine Any Car from just giving the normal car wash to more valeting and polishing where it becomes more of a regular thing,” explained Keir.
“And other young people like me and Luis — we’ve got more opportunities to keep coming back, working, and getting the hang of stuff like that.
Then as well, if we’re doing that, it can sort of expand on We Shine Any Car and it can make us bigger and it gives other people more opportunities to get involved as well.”

“All of our young people bring so much enthusiasm and pride,” added Luis. “Seeing Keir take the lead with We Polish Any Car shows what’s possible when young people are trusted to shine.”

We Polish Any Car – protect your investment

Keir will be on-site every Thursday, 10 am – 4 pm, offering expert car polishing to restore paintwork, enhance shine, and protect your investment.

This completes the full vehicle-care journey — from car washing, to valeting, to polishing — all delivered by passionate young people gaining real-world experience and confidence in the automotive industry.

Enterprise, empowerment & opportunity

Genuine Futures CIC empowers young people aged 15–24 who are NEET (not in education, employment, or training) to build confidence, gain qualifications, and explore enterprise as a route to independence.

Through programmes like Boss Your Future Bolton, We Shine Any Car, and now We Polish Any Car, young people are developing skills, gaining mentorship, and finding pride in their achievements.

“We’re building something that belongs to the community,” added Mike. “Every car washed, valeted, or polished helps a young person gain skills, purpose, and belief in themselves. That’s real social value — and it’s happening right here in Bolton.”
